Being Good to Yourself: Feldenkrais Series

An Online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement Series with Sarah Baumert

In this Feldenkrais series, we will explore lessons that promote self-connection and pleasure, finding equanimity in movement, and adapting to change with resilience. In a world where technology has become ever more prevalent, it can be easy to feel disconnected from our bodies, our emotions, and the people around us. But through the gentle, exploratory movements of the Feldenkrais Method, we can find a sense of joy and connection that is uniquely human.

"Joy is exactly what's happening, minus our opinion of it" - Charlotte Joko Beck

In Feldenkrais we explore the subtle movements of our bodies through a practice of being in perception rather than evaluation, we become more aware of our sensations and emotions and can cultivate a sense of ease, playfulness, and curiosity that can carry over into all aspects of our lives.

Whether you are new to the Feldenkrais Method or a seasoned practitioner, this series is designed to help you tap into the joy of movement, rediscover a sense of wholeness and  pleasure. This series will also be appropriate for those looking for a new way to approach chronic pain and discomfort. Through a combination of movement lessons, group discussions, and guided meditations, we will explore themes such as:

  • Connecting with yourself through movement and touch

What people are saying about Sarah's teaching:

I find your classes to be exceptionally supportive and illuminating, and I’ve so benefitted from the learning and the unlearning I’ve experienced. Drop by drop, this practice and what I’ve received from your teaching have radically changed how I am in my body and in my life. These online Feldenkrais courses have become some of my favorite practices ever, and I’m excited every time you propose a new series. - Betsy

I am continually amazed at the “magic” of Feldenkrais. After each of the many classes I have participated in, I feel uplifted, both in posture and in mood. A clear vision is revealed and my energy is revived. Thank you, Sarah for your wise and kind presence. - Lisa

After these lessons, I often feel like I am “floating”. I continue to realize, in real time and activities like walking, the connection between all parts of my body….the supple power that moves up and down my spine, from my head to my pelvis. - Helen

I had a moment where I was feeling being propelled by my pelvis and it was so distinct. Everything felt easier, just less effort. And I was shocked when I got to standing! It just felt like gravity in the room was different. Because that is always difficult and it was actually kind of easy in a way.

This is a non-judgemental, non-corrective, and liberating way to experience your body in motion. You will experience learning at your pace where noticing what makes you feel good is a priority. Notice what you are curious about, and recognize that experiencing pleasure and enjoyment in your body are measures of freedom. The lessons will be suitable for all levels, and will include a variety of positions, from lying on the back or side, to hands and knees, moving from sitting to lying, or rolling.
